Mahjong At The Merc

-Learn and play Mahjong at the Merc the third Wednesday of every month.

-Workshops begin at 6P and typically wrap up at 8P.  

-Come a bit early to fill a wine glass and choose your seat. Workshop intro uses a brief history of Mahjong, instruction, guided play and fun.

-Parking is easily available in our front parking lot on Davis Street and along 7th Street and Van Buren Street.  Entrances are on Davis Street as well as 7th Street.

-We also sell the prettiest Mahjong tiles, bags, Mahjong sets, hostess gifts, and hundreds of other beautiful annd useful items you did not know you needed.  

Description:

Mahjong 101 is designed for beginners looking for instruction. Whether you've never had a lesson before, or you've never had a lesson before, or you've had a few but it just hasn't stuck well enough for you to feel comfortable playing solo. We'll cover the history, vocabulary, and basics of the game play, and take you from confused to confident. After approximately 1.5 hours of instruction, we'll move into a 30 minute quick guided play to help you get the feel of the game.

Guided play is your chance to move through a self driven game of Mahjong with other beginners with the benefit of an instructor observing, offering advice, and answering questions. Analysis paralysis is overcome with the sounding board of an advanced, experienced instructor, Think of Guided Play as your last ride with training wheels before you go off on a solo adventure! This option is designed to give you the confidence to play solo in social settings.
